How this is calculated

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It compresses about 50% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality — but most Windows apps, web uploads, and chat tools still don't support it.

How this works (and why it's private)

CalcLab loads libheif compiled to WebAssembly directly into your browser. When you drop a file, the decode and re-encode run on your device. There is no upload. You can verify by opening DevTools → Network and watching for any request after a conversion — there isn't one.
